Washing Film

After going through the developing and fixing chemicals, the film must be rinsed in running water at 68 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 seconds. This will get the rest of the fixer off the film. Then, the film must be immersed in a hypo cleaning agent such as Kodak “hypo clear” for one to two minutes. You can use a film tank, as the film is still on the reel at this point. Swirl the reel around in the tank, or simply rock the tank a bit to disperse the hypo clearing agent.

Then, wash the film in plain running water for five minutes. Be sure the temperature is still 68 degrees. The last step is to immerse the film in a wetting agent such as Kodak Photo Flo for 30 seconds.
